Getting started
Signing in, saving & My designs
You can open Popcorn Editor and start designing straight away — no account required. Signing in adds the things that make a design yours: cloud saves you can reopen on any device, sharing, and the AI Assistant.
Why sign in
Everything you draw on the Canvas works the same whether or not you're signed in. What signing in unlocks is persistence and reach:
- Cloud saves — your designs live in your account, so you can close the tab and pick up later on a different computer.
- Sharing — publish a design as a link for others to view or edit.
- The Assistant — describe what you want and let the AI build it on the Canvas.
If you don't have an account yet, see Creating an account.
Guest vs signed-in
Working signed out is a real, full-featured mode — it's just local.
| Signed out (guest) | Signed in | |
|---|---|---|
| Edit on the Canvas | Yes | Yes |
| Local draft recovery | Yes | Yes |
| Download (export a file) | Yes | Yes |
| Save design to the cloud | — | Yes |
| Save as new version | — | Yes |
| My designs library | — | Yes |
As a guest, the save-related items simply don't appear in the File menu — the editor keeps your work as a local draft instead, so you won't lose it if you close the tab. See Drafts & autosave recovery for how that safety net works.
Saving a design
Once you're signed in, save from Menu ▸ File ▸ Save design (⌘/Ctrl S). This uploads the current design — along with any images you added from your device — to your account. The first save adopts the id already in the address bar, so the URL stays stable; every save after that updates the same design in place.
Tip: get in the habit of pressing ⌘/Ctrl S. It's the fastest way to snapshot your progress, and it keeps the copy in My designs current.
Naming your design
The design's name lives in the centered filename field in the toolbar. Click it and type to rename — the change is saved with the design. A design you haven't named yet shows as Untitled until you give it a title, which is worth doing early so it's easy to find later.
My designs
My designs is your library of saved work. Open it two ways:
- Click the chevron beside the filename in the toolbar, or
- Menu ▸ File ▸ My designs.
The panel shows your designs as thumbnail cards, most recently edited first. There's a Search designs… box at the top and pagination at the bottom, so a large library stays easy to navigate. Click any card to open that design. The New design button in the corner starts a fresh document. (An empty library reads "No saved designs yet. Save your work to continue later.")
Rename, duplicate, delete
Hover a card and click the ⋯ (Design actions) button for its menu:
- Duplicate — makes a server-side copy of the design. The copy sorts to the top of the list, ready to branch a variation without touching the original.
- Rename — edit the title inline, right on the card.
- Delete — removes the design. You'll be asked to confirm ("Delete design?" — "This design will be removed permanently."), because this can't be undone.
Save as new version
Menu ▸ File ▸ Save as new version is for freezing a milestone. It saves your current edits, then stamps out a separate, numbered copy into My designs while you keep working on the original. Use it before a big change so you always have the earlier state to return to. This is different from the timeline of automatic snapshots behind the clock button in the toolbar (version history) — that tracks the same design's history, whereas Save as new version creates a distinct, independent design.
What's not here
There's no separate profile or account-settings page inside the editor — signing in, plans, and credits are handled in the account area. For those, head to Creating an account.
Where to go next
- Drafts & autosave recovery — your local safety net when working as a guest.
- Share by link — turn a saved design into a link others can view or edit.
