Upgrading & managing billing

Upgrading to a paid plan takes a minute, and every part of it — paying, changing plans, canceling — happens on Stripe's secure pages. Popcorn Editor hands you off, then reads the result back so your plan and credits update on their own.

Billing runs through Stripe

Popcorn Editor never stores your card. When you upgrade, the app sends you to Stripe Checkout to enter payment, and Stripe tells the app when a subscription becomes active. The same goes for changes and cancellations later: they live in the Stripe billing portal, not inside the editor. This keeps your payment details entirely on Stripe's side.

Starting checkout

Open the Pricing page (the Choose your plan screen) and press Choose plan on the paid plan you want. You'll be redirected to Stripe Checkout to enter your card and confirm.

If checkout can't start for some reason, you'll see:

Could not start checkout. Please try again.

That's almost always a stale session — press Choose plan again and it clears. For a walkthrough of the plans themselves, see Plans & AI credits.

After a successful checkout

Once payment goes through, Stripe returns you to a confirmation screen:

You're all set! Your {plan} subscription is active. Credits have been added to your account.

Two buttons are waiting there:

Button What it does
Start designing Takes you straight back to the editor
View plans Reopens the Pricing page

Your plan and credit balance update automatically. Behind the scenes a Stripe webhook is the source of truth, so the new allowance appears without you refreshing anything.

If you cancel checkout

Change your mind mid-checkout? Backing out of Stripe returns you to:

Checkout canceled No charge was made. You can pick a plan whenever you're ready.

The same Start designing and View plans buttons let you carry on. Nothing was charged, and you can start checkout again any time.

Managing your subscription

Once you're on a paid plan, a Manage billing link appears next to your credit balance — on the Pricing page pill, and as the target of the credits badge in the editor. Clicking it opens the Stripe billing portal in a new tab, so your canvas stays open behind it.

In the portal you can:

  • Update the card on file
  • Download past invoices
  • Switch to a different plan
  • Cancel your subscription

Tip: everything about your plan lives in the Stripe portal. There is no separate billing or payment page inside Popcorn Editor.

Canceling your plan

To cancel, open Manage billing and cancel from the Stripe portal. You keep your plan — and its AI credits — until the end of the current billing period, then you drop to the Free plan automatically. There's no proration surprise and no cancel button hidden inside the editor; the portal handles it.

Troubleshooting

A couple of snags come up now and then, and both clear quickly.

Problem Fix
Plan didn't update after paying The update is webhook-driven. Reopen the app or the Pricing page to re-pull your current plan and credits.
Checkout won't start Press Choose plan again — a stale checkout session usually clears on the retry.

If your credit balance still looks wrong after reopening the Pricing page, give the webhook a moment; the balance is pulled fresh each time the page loads.
